There are many ways to keep disease-causing agents from infecting custom procedure trays. Filtration, disinfection, and pressurization are common methods used in hospitals and laboratories. Aside from the above methods, another popular and effective method is sterilization. This method is preferred by many in health care professionals in making sure their custom procedure trays are free from contaminants.

, steam sterilization is used. This is just another type of heat sterilization being used to expose larger items in heat.

However, heat sterilization no longer applies to all medical tools and items. There are some hospital and laboratory items such as custom procedure trays that are susceptible to heat because they are made of different materials such as resin or plastic.

Because of this, the use of chemical sterilization is introduced. This is the process of exposing the items in chemicals whether they are liquid or gas chemicals. The purpose is to kill all bacteria and viruses with strong chemicals. Custom procedure trays are commonly sterilized using this method.

What Are Chemical Sterilants to Use in Custom Trays?

Medical items may vary in materials. Even custom procedure trays may also differ from one another depending on brands and manufacturers. Nevertheless, almost all chemical sterilants can be used for most custom procedure trays.

The important benefit of using chemical sterilants is its ability to kill pathogens even at low temperatures. Most custom procedure trays, especially those that are made of plastic can only be sterilized at a low temperature.

The good thing about most custom procedure trays is that they are not susceptible to most chemicals. However, it is still recommended to know which chemicals should be used to sterilize custom procedure trays.

Here are the chemicals to use:

  • Ozone
  • Bleach
  • Glutaraldehyde and Formaldehyde
  • Phthalaldehyde
  • Hydrogen Peroxide
  • Peracetic Acid

Conclusion

Sterilization is the only process and method most health workers use to ensure diseases are killed. Heat and chemical sterilizations are two types of sterilization being used today. However, for custom procedure trays, chemical sterilization is most recommended unless the trays are made of stainless steel. The above chemicals are safe to use for all types of custom procedure trays.
